5 Bible Verses for Sickness & Healing

Home   Rejoice In Hope   5 Bible Verses for Sickness & Healing

The practice of praying has been found in one form or another in nearly all cultures and among all peoples. Prayer is a conversation we experience with God. As human beings we have a natural instinct to pray, this conversation is as natural as breathing, it is a function of life.

Our brains and bodies are wired in such a way that praying to God and having faith in God's love and power can make a real difference in our health. Science and doctors recognize the synergistic relation of our spiritual well-being and health. The mind-body spiritual connection and having a prayer or meditation practice is known to reduce stress and anxiety. Prayer is basic to our well-being and happiness.

To better understand this, here are just a few of the things the Bible says about healing sicknesses and other ailments:

Psalm 103

1 Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. 2 Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. 3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. 5 He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! 6 The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly.

Jeremiah 30:17

"I will give you back your health and heal your wounds,” says the Lord.

James 5:13-15

13 Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. 14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. 16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

Proverbs 18:14

The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit?

Luke 7:21

21 At that very time, Jesus cured many people of their diseases, illnesses, and evil spirits, and he restored sight to many who were blind.

Autumn Prayer For The Anglican Rosary

Autumn invites us to pause, to give thanks for the harvest of our lives, and to trust in the quiet work of change. Just as the trees let go of their leaves, may we learn to release what no longer serves us, and open our hearts to the beauty of what is being renewed.
